I recommend that the Commission approve an application on behalf of broadcast television providers - ABC and SBS Television and networks Seven, Nine and Ten - for temporary exemption under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act regarding provision of captioning. -

Initiatives to achieve better access to the built environment
As you know, the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act, and equivalent laws in all States, make it unlawful to discriminate on the ground of a person's disability. One of the areas covered by the Act is access to premises. The only exception to this is where a building is already constructed not providing access, and alteration to provide access would cause unjustifiable hardship. -

This is an inquest into the circumstances of the deaths of two Aboriginal men (approximately 37 and 21 years old) in Mutitjulu and one Aboriginal boy (approximately 14 years old) in Willowra. Without seeking to pre-empt any findings by the Coroner, the deaths all appear to be related to the sniffing of petrol. -
