Contact officer training
Contact officers play a key role in workplaces as "go-to" staff members who assist employees experiencing discrimination, bullying, or harassment. Generally, contact officers are not human resources staff or managers as these roles may conflict with the responsibilities of a contact officer.
Contact officers can help to create a positive workplace culture as a proactive measure in preventing discrimination, bullying, and harassment. For this reason, contact officer programs are widely incorporated across government, business, and community sectors.
Our training uses scenario-based learning with case study examples inspired by real life situations. These scenarios are drawn from our own investigation and conciliation service, so that your staff receive an authentic and relevant training experience.

Contact officer training
Provide your team members with the knowledge and skills they need to become contact officers. Suitable for new contact officers or as a refresher for existing contact officers.
The Australian Human Rights Commission offers both in-house training and open courses. In-house training is designed for larger organisations while open courses are intended for smaller agencies.
-
Delivery mode: live workshop (in-house)
In-house training allows tailoring to your specific context. You will have a pre-training meeting with your facilitator, have input into the training case studies and be able to ask organisation-specific questions from start to finish. Contact officers ideally work as a network. Completing the training together builds collaboration and allows space for the network to generate ideas and create action plans.
- Completion time: full-day workshop (may be delivered over 2 half-days)
- Delivered virtually across Australia, or in-person in greater Sydney
- Cost: $5000 (+GST) per workshop
- Participant numbers: Min. 7 | Max. 20

Delivery mode: live workshop (open session)
Open sessions allow smaller organisations to register up to 6 people to complete the training alongside individuals from other agencies. Numbers from individual organisations are capped to ensure 3 or more agencies can participate in each open course. Open sessions are a collaborative space where agencies can learn from each other.
